How it works
- Copy the YouTube link. Open the video in the YouTube app or your browser, then tap Share and Copy link, or copy the address from the browser bar.
- Paste the link into YTDownload. Paste the link into the field at the top of this page and press Download.
- Choose a format. Pick Audio (MP3 192 kbps) from the preview card and keep the tab open until the file finishes.
How the MP3 is made
- Converted as it downloads. The server encodes the audio to MP3 at 192 kbps and streams it to you, so nothing is stored.
- Keep the tab open. The transfer stops if you close the tab before the file finishes.
- Source quality still matters. An MP3 cannot sound better than the audio YouTube publishes for the video.
- M4A too. If you prefer no re-encoding, the same card offers an M4A copied from the original stream.
Only convert audio you own, have permission to save, or that is licensed for reuse. Music is usually protected by copyright.
Limits
- MP4: H.264 video up to 1080p, with AAC sound.
- MP3: 192 kbps, converted and streamed while it downloads.
- Long videos: videos longer than 60 minutes offer audio only, and media longer than 3 hours is rejected.
- File size: up to 500 MiB per file.
- Not supported: private, members-only, age-restricted, and live videos, and playlists.
YouTube to MP3 FAQ
What quality is the MP3?
The MP3 is encoded at 192 kbps, a good balance of size and sound for music and speech. It cannot be better than the audio YouTube itself publishes.
Why do I have to keep the tab open?
The MP3 is converted while it downloads and streamed straight to you, so nothing is stored on the server. Closing the tab before the file finishes stops the transfer.
Can I convert long videos to MP3?
Videos longer than 60 minutes offer audio only, and media longer than 3 hours is rejected. Files above 500 MiB are marked as too large for this server, and the row shows that reason.
Is it legal to turn a YouTube video into an MP3?
Only for audio you own, have permission to save, or that is licensed for reuse. Music and podcasts are usually protected by copyright, and YouTube's Terms of Service restrict downloading, so check the rights before you convert.
Why is the MP3 option missing or greyed out?
The MP3 needs an audio stream that YouTube publishes for the video. It is greyed out for videos over the length or size limits, and it is unavailable if the video has no downloadable audio.
Is there an M4A option too?
Yes. The result card also lists an M4A audio download, copied from the original stream without re-encoding, when YouTube publishes one.
