How it works
- Copy the YouTube link. Open the video in the YouTube app or your browser, then tap Share and Copy link, or copy the address from the browser bar.
- Paste the link into YTDownload. Paste the link into the field at the top of this page and press Download.
- Choose a format. Pick a quality from Video (MP4), up to 1080p, and save the file to your device.
What you get
- Up to 1080p. Every H.264 size YouTube published up to 1080p is listed, with its resolution and an estimated file size.
- One file, with sound. Picture and sound are published separately at higher qualities, and YTDownload joins them into a single MP4 as you download.
- Plays everywhere. H.264 with AAC audio works on phones, TVs, and editors without extra software.
- Honest about gaps. A size that is missing or too large is greyed out with the reason instead of failing later.
Resolutions above 1080p are not offered, and a video that YouTube publishes only in another codec may list fewer sizes.
Limits
- MP4: H.264 video up to 1080p, with AAC sound.
- MP3: 192 kbps, converted and streamed while it downloads.
- Long videos: videos longer than 60 minutes offer audio only, and media longer than 3 hours is rejected.
- File size: up to 500 MiB per file.
- Not supported: private, members-only, age-restricted, and live videos, and playlists.
YouTube to MP4 FAQ
Which MP4 qualities can I download?
YTDownload lists H.264 MP4 files up to 1080p, such as 1080p, 720p, and 360p, depending on what the video was published in. Higher resolutions are not offered.
Why is 1080p missing for my video?
The uploader may not have published 1080p, or the video may exist only in a codec other than H.264. YTDownload shows only the sizes it can deliver, and greyed-out rows explain why an entry is unavailable.
Why does a long video offer only audio?
Videos longer than 60 minutes are limited to audio downloads to keep files manageable. Media longer than 3 hours is rejected, and files above 500 MiB are marked as too large.
Will the file play on my phone or TV?
Almost certainly. H.264 MP4 with AAC audio is the format most phones, TVs, and players support, which is why qualities are limited to it.
Is it legal to download a YouTube video as MP4?
Only for videos you own, have permission to save, or that are licensed for reuse. YouTube's Terms of Service restrict downloading except where YouTube provides a download option or the rights holder permits it.
Do video and sound come in one file?
Yes. YouTube publishes the picture and the sound separately for higher qualities, and YTDownload joins them into one MP4 while it downloads.
